SILCHAR: Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the mysterious death of two brothers, who had been allegedly murdered in Mizoram.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Roy said that Prabin Singh, an oil tanker driver and his helper Nipen Singh, were cold-bloodedly murdered in Mizoram.

Pravin, while returning from Aizawl, was beaten to death allegedly by a gang of Mizo goons in a roadside dhaba. Nipen, who was accompanying his brother, was arrested by Mizo police on the charge that he had actually murdered Pravin. Mizo police sent him to Aizawl jail where he was found dead after a few days.

Aizawl jail authorities informed the Dholai police over telephone that Nipen had committed suicide by hanging himself. His body was handed over to the Cachar administration the next day. The Singh brothers were the residents of Ramprasadpur village in Dholai.

The villagers initially refused to receive Nripen's dead body and demanded justice. However, after district administration's intervention, they received the dead body.

Dr Roy alleged in the Lok Sabha that Nipen was forced to sign a blank paper by the Mizos after his brother was murdered by local goons. Roy demanded a CBI enquiry into the double-murder case which had created tension in Dholai, which shares a border with Mizoram.

Meanwhile, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has sought intervention of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and requested him to arrange a high-level investigation into the matter. Former Silchar MP Dev expressed concern as to how a person in police custody could hang himself. She, too, claimed both cases were pre-planned.
